Marked in the Bones

Hello,
This work was too fragile to take to Skidmore. The bones are made of clay and the images in the slats have different text from many cultures and times. The large bone has the quote "Cast A Light Upon My Secrets. The Answers Are Written In My Bones." I have to create one more skull that will be hanging down next to the feathers. My question; Do you find the bark on the left distracting? I was thinking of having fine, red threads coming down from the large bark on the bottom-like veins instead of roots. What are your thoughts?

I don't find the bark distracting, and I love the idea of thread-veins. I think this is a beautiful piece.

Hey there Melissa,

I find myself being more focused on the clay bones... The bark adds a nice texture but might be better hanging down with the rest of the objects if you decide to include it with the piece. I also love the thread veins idea. Really interesting work!

So like this one. I love the bark ~ my only question is..does it detract from the bones? Is that bark next to the black feathers? Maybe move that one? Oh goodness, what do I know?
